If you feel unclear about whether people should wear masks and why and what type, you’re not by yourself. COVID-19 is really a novel disease and we’re learning new things over it every day. However, most of the confusion around masks is a result of the conflation of two very different functions of masks.
We can’t stay locked in our homes indefinitely. When the day concerns restart our normal lives, we should you must do everything possible to prevent the coronavirus from spreading uncontrolled through our communities. That is why we need to begin a serious conversation about Covid-19 protection.

We recruited 286 adults with contact with respiratory infections inside the Australian winters of 2006 and 2007 – 94 adults were randomized to surgical masks, 90 to P2 masks and 102 towards the control group. Using intention to treat analysis, we found no significant difference in the relative chance of respiratory illness inside mask groups when compared with control group. However, compliance with Tube Mask use was under 50%. In an adjusted analysis of compliant subjects, masks as being a group had protective efficacy in excess of 80% against clinical influenza-like illness. The efficacy against proven viral infection and between P2 masks (57%) and surgical masks (33%) was non-significant.

That’s exactly what the Qualcomm Institute on the University of California, San Diego is attempting to do. “Improvised visors by incorporating 3D-printed parts seem probably the most feasible,” say engineer Ramesh Rao, the institute’s director.
